Self Love: The Greatest Love of All

For many people, the concept of self-love is an overblown theory and they often ignore its importance. People aspire to be perfect and perfectionism is considered a greater asset or attribute than self-love. When we talk about self-love, it is easy to picture someone reading self-help books or hugging a tree; but self-love is much more than that. A lot of studies have shown that self-love is the key to mental well-being and it keeps depression and anxiety at bay.

Self love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. It means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. In other words, it means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. It also implies to not settling for less than you deserve. Though it can mean something different for each person because we all have many different way to take care of ourselves.

Modern society is shaped in such a way that we are sort of bound to constantly compete against each other, or even ourselves. We are always trying to reach out short-term goals and trying to better ourselves to match the expectations set upon us by the society. As a consequence, we end up being too hard on ourselves all too often without even realising. All of us are more or less stuck up and consumed by our work, social interactions, life goals, weekend plans and so on.

Love is the only thing that keeps us going and makes us less robotic in a world which requires us to work, think and act like we are programmed bots. We cannot always expect to rely only on external sources for love and that is where the concept of self-love comes in. A person who practices self love will never need to depend on others to be happy and it is an empowering feeling to be happy on the inside. Self-love is not being selfish; its just putting yourself first and not being too tough on yourself. So, next time when you hear that little voice in your head, telling you that you are not good enough or that you cannot afford to make mistakes; Just Ignore It!

Loving yourself is the key to live a happy life. When you learn to love yourself fully, it creates a happy, loving environment for the person to flourish in. The first and foremost rule to live a fulfilling life is the requirement to love all that you are and also trust that life loves you in return. When a person loves himself/herself unconditionally, their mindset shifts to the energy of love and abundance. It enables a person to have more peace, confidence and happiness which empowers the person. Self love seems to change our attitude from pessimism to optimism, and enables one to attract more uplifting people and experiences in life.

To exercise self love, one should appreciate themselves for whom they are. You are much more than your physical self. You are a magnificent spiritual being within. Your true essence is that of pure, positive energy, love and light. You are of infinite worth. It is one’s divine birth right to live a joyful life filled with love, happiness, peace and prosperity.

If a person struggles with loving themselves, it is most likely because they judge themselves for mistakes made or because they don’t feel valued or validated due to childhood experiences. One can try to change those memories by forgiving and forgetting. One have to forgive oneself or others in order to “let go” of what bothers them. It doesn’t matter what your past was, what matters is where you are now and where you are going. One have to make peace with their life. One can do so by shifting their perception of the memories that trouble them by creating new memories that have happy endings and doing so, will lightens their heart and brings peace to their mind.

Making mistakes is a part of the expanding process; it’s how we learn and grow. If a person do not slip up now and again, how would they know to improve themselves to be able to fulfil their destiny? How would they come to love and believe in themselves? Thee answer is simple; they wouldn’t.

Importance of Self-Love in One’s Life

“Why is self love important?”, you might ask. For many of us, self love might sound like a luxury rather than a necessity or a new-age fad for those with too much time on their hands. Ironically, however, self-care and compassion might actually be needed most by those of us who work too hard and who are constantly striving to surpass ourselves and grasp the shape-shifting phantasm of perfection.

Most of the time, when we are being too hard on ourselves, we do it because we are driven by a desire to excel and do everything right, all the time. This entails a lot of self-criticism, and that persecutory inner voice that constantly tells us how we could’ve done things better is a hallmark of perfectionism.

Through self-love, one gets the feeling of greater life satisfaction. When we love ourselves more, we instantly change our perspective towards the world. Self love can give one a more positive attitude towards life. Self-love can help us to pick up good habits. Self love means loving your body, soul and mind. So, people who love themselves often refrain themselves from doing things that will have an impact on their tranquillity. Hence, it also helps us to adapt healthy habits.

Through the practice of self love, one’s mental health remains better. People who love themselves, are less likely to suffer from anxiety or depression. It also paves the way to a positive mindset which is an essential ingredient for success in life and also, for mental well-being. Loving yourself also reduces stress, lessens procrastination and makes a person more focused on work.
