On the 117th anniversary of his mentor and friend Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy (JRD) Tata’s birth, Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata recounted one of his happy recollections with him. JRD’s goal of building a ‘Tata’ car someday was disclosed by the 81-year-old industrialist during a journey down memory lane. He also stated that Sumant Moolgaokar, the late Tata Motors architect, was also a designer. When JRD decided to leave down in 1991 and named Tata as his successor, the octogenarian took over the reins of Tata Sons. Despite not being biological relatives, the two had a remarkable affinity. JRD was also given the name Jeh by Tata. Tata had previously stated on social media that the two spent a lot of time together at work and at home during the last few years of his life.
